Ritu Menon is a feminist publisher and writer, co-founder of the pioneering imprint Kali for Women and founder of Women Unlimited. She has been in publishing for over 40 years and has published several of India and South Asia’s most distinguished writers. She is also the publisher of all Qurratulain Hyder’s novels in translation as well as more than a dozen anthologies, novels and novellas by Ismat Chughtai. She herself is the author of more than a dozen books and scores of academic essays, among them the groundbreaking Borders & Boundaries: Women in India’s Partition. With Zoya Hasan, she has co-authored a three-volume study on the status of Muslim women in India, the first such study to have been undertaken in India, which included the landmark work, Unequal Citizens: A Study of Muslim Women in India. She was awarded the Padma Shri by the Government of India in 2011.
